Gophers volleyball enters NCAA Tournament as No. 2 overall seed

Minnesota is ranked third in the latest coaches poll.

Sixty-four teams are in the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships and the Gophers are the No. 2 overall seed.

Minnesota, the Big Ten champ, is seeking its third appearance in the Final Four in the last four years and will open play as host of the Minneapolis Regional on Friday at 7 p.m. against the Bryant Bears at Maturi Pavilion.

Colorado and South Carolina play at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with the winners advancing to Saturday's matchup with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.

Minnesota is favored to win the four-team regional, and if they do, they'll again host the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 at Maturi Pavilion on Dec. 7-8.

The Gophers went 25-3 during the regular season and won the Big Ten outright with a record of 19-1. They are ranked second in RPI and No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, but volleyball season-ticket holders and Gopher Scores members can get tickets now. U of M students can access free tickets on a first come, first served basis.

The Gophers have reached the Final Four five times in program history (2003, 2004, 2009, 2015, 2016).
