Gophers vs. Runnin' Rebels: Game 1 Preview

The last time the Gopher football team reached a bowl game was 2009. They haven't won one since 2004 when they defeated mighty Alabama. Coach Jerry Kill comes in to the 2012 season with hopes of getting his struggling Big Ten program back to postseason play, but does so with a cautious realism.

Head coach Jerry Kill isn't exactly thrilled with having to go on the road for his season opener, something the Gophers have done four years in a row now, but senior quarterback MarQueis Gray said the team is anxious to get out and play no matter where the game is.

Coach Kill is being realistic, saying with so much youth on this team another building year may be in the cards.

The good news for the Gophers heading in to Las Vegas for their 10p.m. clash with UNLV tonight, is the Runnin' Rebels aren't at the level of the Gophers season-opening opponent last year, USC. More good news, UNLV will start a QB who has never taken a college snap.

Here's Coach Kill's final words to the media before taking off for the desert, and here's a closer look at all aspects of the season opener.
