Minneapolis City Council to tackle Vikings stadium

The Ways and Means committee is set to meet Monday afternoon to discuss the city's share of the stadium measure Gov. Mark Dayton signed into law last week. The full council is expected to take a formal vote on the nearly $1 billion proposal on Friday.

Letter shows Minneapolis City Council support for Vikings stadium legislation

The Pioneer Press obtained a draft letter to Gov. Mark Dayton and the stadium bill sponsors. The letter expresses majority support for the plan although there's no indication the letter was delivered. The letter says "we stand ready to be the local partner for a stadium solution." It also reinforces the requirement for Target Center improvements. Stadium legislation stalled in part because city officials balked at the plan.

Rybak turns up lobbying effort as city stadium vote nears

Mayor R.T. Rybak thinks there are just enough yes votes to get the Vikings stadium plan through the Minneapolis City Council. But he's asking residents who support it to turn up the heat on their council members. All of the council members will vote on the Vikings stadium plan Thursday as a committee, with a final vote Friday.

Minneapolis council member says stadium vote could go either way

Minneapolis' city council will vote this week on whether to approve the Vikings stadium plan that state lawmakers approved this month. Council member Gary Schiff says the vote will have a one vote margin. But whether it's for or against the stadium is not clear. Schiff says he'll vote against it. He wants to send the plan back to the Legislature to come up with a deal that's better for Minneapolis.

Tight timeline to complete stadium by 2016

From prep work and design to construction, dozens of tasks have to be addressed with a sense of urgency. The Vikings want the new stadium ready to go for the 2016 NFL season. The Star Tribune reports hours after lawmakers agreed to the nearly $1 billion stadium deal, officials started creating a timeline. First, Gov. Mark Dayton needs to sign the bill and at least seven members of the Minneapolis City Council also have to approve the deal.

Minneapolis council preps for stadium vote

Now that Gov. Mark Dayton has signed the $975 million Minnesota Vikings stadium bill, it's the Minneapolis City Council's turn to get the ball. In April, seven of the 13 council members endorsed the stadium, and proponents hope that support will hold firm when the council again takes up the issue this month. But the bill -- signed Monday at a ceremony in the Capitol rotunda -- has changed since the council last saw it.

Rybak: City council needs to express its support for Vikings stadium plan

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says the 13-member city council should show that the city is on board with the Vikings stadium plan presented by Gov. Mark Dayton and team officials this week. One way to do that might be a non-binding resolution. A bill could surface at the legislature next week.
