A legendary Burnsville High School football coach died on Tuesday at the age of 80 after battling Parkinson's disease.

Dick Hanson coached at Burnsville for 34 seasons from 1969-1993. Over that time his teams compiled a record of 205-59-2. The Braves (until the school changed its mascot to the Blaze his final season) won nine section championships, 10 conference titles and five state championships.

He joined the Burnsville coaching staff as a scout in 1960. He spent eight seasons as an assistant before he became the program's head coach.

He led Burnsville to the State Class A title in 1972, the Braves also won Class AA championships in 1980, 1985, 1989 and 1991.

Hanson was named to the Minnesota Football Coaches Association's Hall of Fame in 2012.

But, according to the Star Tribune, Hanson wasn't just a great coach, but a great teacher as well. He taught math and was honored as the Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 1968.

Through the years, KARE 11's Randy Shaver has gotten to know Hanson, he calls Hanson one of the greatest football coaches in Minnesota.
