Top pitching prospect Alex Meyer won't pitch for the Twins this season, but eight new faces joined the team today as the Twins announced their September call ups.

Meyer left his start at Triple-A Rochester on Saturday just six pitches into the game. The Twins say he was taken out for precautionary reasons after Meyer couldn't get loose. It was his final start for the Rochester Red Wings, so he finished the season with a 3.52 ERA and 153 strikeouts in just 130 1/3 innings.

The players that got the call are:

  • Aaron Hicks – Outfielder
  • Doug Bernier – Infielder
  • Chris Herrmann – Catcher/Outfielder
  • Josmil Pinto – Catcher
  • Lester Oliveros – Relief Pitcher
  • Michael Tonkin – Relief Pitcher
  • Logan Darnell – Starting Pitcher
  • A.J. Achter – Relief Pitcher

According to the Star Tribune, Hicks, who was Minnesota's starting center fielder on Opening Day each of the past two seasons, has regained some of the form at the plate that convinced the Twins he was worthy of a first-round pick.
