Fire officials in Duluth are investigating to find out what led to "dangerously high" carbon monoxide levels at Duluth ice arena Wednesday night, The Associated Press reported.

About 30 people were evacuated from Fryberger Arena and eight people had elevated levels of carbon monoxide. One person was hospitalized.

Duluth fire officials are suspecting the aging heating system and propane-powered Zamboni in the arena.

Meanwhile, an unrelated ice rink issue is troubling St. Paul officials. Copper thieves over the weekend made off with 64 4-foot pipes vital to the cooling system at the popular outdoor Phalen Recreational Center, which may derail plans to open the facility by Thanksgiving.
