Hill-Murray awaiting state tourney fate after 'potential COVID-19 exposure'

A very unsettling situation for the Hill-Murray boys hockey team.

The Hill-Murray boys hockey team is hoping it will be able to play in the state tournament after a potential exposure to COVID-19 involving an opponent.

"We’re working with the MN Dept. of Health and the MN State High School League to determine the eligibility of our boys varsity hockey players following a potential COVID-19 exposure with an opposing player," a school spokesperson said in a statement to Bring Me The News. "We hope our boys will be playing in the State Tournament this week."

The Star Tribune's David La Vaque first reported the news, citing a source who said Hill-Murray didn't practice Monday while adding that none of the Hill-Murray players are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

The boys tournament begins Tuesday with the Class 1A quarterfinals. Class 2A quarterfinals are Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center, with Hill-Murray, the No. 2 seed, scheduled to play in the opening game at 11 a.m. against Wayzata.
