The Hill-Murray High School girls hockey team repeated as state champions Saturday, defeating Minnetonka 2-1 in the Class 2A state tournament Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

It was also top-seeded Minnetonka's first ever loss in the state tournament, the Star Tribune reports.

Hill-Murray (25-5) took the lead for good at 2:03 into the third period, when senior Jess Bonfe scored.

“We’re pretty happy right now,” Pioneers coach Bill Schafhauser said after the game, according to the Star Tribune.

Class 1A game

In the Class 1A game, Thief River Falls defeated Blake, 3-1, to win the title.

It was the first state tournament appearance for the Prowlers of Thief River Falls, and they upset Blake's attempt at a third straight title.

Thief River Falls senior Emily Bergland scored what turned out to be the winning goal with 3:06 left in the game. Blake pulled its goalie with a minute left, and Prowlers' sophomore Callie Fagerstrom hit an empty-netter to ice the victory.
