Coronavirus has made 2020 a nightmare, and now it's starting to ruin 2021. On Wednesday, the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Hockey and FOX Sports North announced that the 2021 celebration of Hockey Day Minnesota has been postponed.

Mankato was set to host Hockey Day in early 2021, but it will now be the host for Hockey Day Minnesota in 2022, with Blakeslee Stadium (where the Vikings used hold training camp scrimmages) serving as the site for the outdoor rink.

"While Hockey Day Minnesota may look a little different this year, we know it will still be a very special experience for those watching on television," said Minnesota Wild President Matt Majka in a statement. "It has become an annual tradition in the State of Hockey, and we look forward to hosting another great celebration of hockey this season and can't wait for Hockey Day 2022 in Mankato."

Hockey Day Minnesota will still happen in 2021, but it won't be held the way it has been since 2007. Plans are in progress, though what exactly 2021 Hockey Day will hold is unknown.

"We have a tremendous opportunity to create something very special for the 2021 version of Hockey Day Minnesota and look forward to sharing these plans in the near future. Mankato has done great work and we're confident 2022 will be a rousing success," said Mike Dimond, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports North.

The Minnesota State High School League recently announced that the upcoming boys and girls hockey seasons are scheduled to happen, though starting later than usual due to fall sports being delayed by COVID-19.
