The World Cup run of the United States has come to an end, they fell to Belgium 2-1, on Tuesday in Salvador, Brazil.

All three goals in the game were scored in extra time, as neither team could score during regulation.

U.S. goalie Tim Howard made 16 saves in the game to keep the Americans in it.

But eventually, in extra time, the Belgians broke through.

Romelu Lukaku set up Kevin De Bruyne, who finally was able to beat Howard to put Belgium up 1-0. Lukaku then scored to put Belgium up 2-0.

The U.S. made a late comeback on a goal from Julian Green to get on the board. The Americans had some chances late, but couldn't capitalize.

The best chance for the U.S. to win the game, actually came during the end of regulation. Chris Wondolowski was wide open, but his shot blazed over the crossbar deep into injury time. A goal there likely would have won the match for the United States.

Belgium will move on to face Argentina in the quarter-finals Saturday.
