Hughes outshines Sale as Twins take 2 of 3 from White Sox

The Minnesota Twins beat Chris Sale and the White Sox 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at Target Field.

The Twins were able to put together some timely hitting and shrug off 10 strikeouts by Sale, to put up six runs on the White Sox ace in 6 2/3 innings.

It was the third time this season the Twins have beaten Sale.

The Twins got to Sale in bunches on Wednesday. Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Minnesota answered for three runs to take a 3-1 lead. They repeated the feat in the seventh to chase Sale from the game.

Brian Dozier led the way for Minnesota, he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kurt Suzuki and Shane Robinson were each 2-for-3.

Dozier, Suzuki, Torii Hunter and Eduardo Nunez all had doubles for Minnesota as well.

It wasn't Byron Buxton's best day. Twins manager Paul Molitor moved him back up to the leadoff spot to face the lefty Sale, but Buxton responded with an 0-for-4 performance with four strikeouts.

The real story of the game though wasn't the pitching of Sale, it was the way Phil Hughes (6-6) sailed through the White Sox lineup. He worked eight innings, giving up a run on six hits, while striking out five.

Chicago's lone run came on a solo homer from Adam LaRoche.

The Twins are off on Thursday, before they open a series in Milwaukee on Friday. Trevor May (4-5) will get the start for Minnesota on Friday night against former Twin Kyle Lohse.
