Saturday's victory ended the Twins' 10-game losing streak, but the reprieve from the loss column proved to be short-lived. Torii Hunter's home run and Max Scherzer's pitching led the Detroit Tigers to a 6-1 win over Minnesota Sunday afternoon.
A first-inning homer by former Twin Hunter equaled Minnesota's output against Scherzer, who is now 7-0 on the season.
Jamey Carroll drove in the Twins' only run with a 5th inning single. Pitcher Mike Pelfrey was knocked out of the game in the sixth inning, allowing five runs. He's now 3-5.
Even the news from the farm club was not encouraging. Right fielder Oswaldo Arcia, who was just sent down to Rochester on Friday, left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. Arcia came out of the game after making a throw to home plate. A source tells the Pioneer Press the shoulder has been giving Arcia trouble off and on since spring training.
The power-hitting Arcia was demoted Friday after enduring a 3-32 slump since May 10.
A Memorial Day matinee in Milwaukee is the first of four games between the Twins and Brewers. After two in cheeseland, the teams come to Target Field for a pair Wednesday and Thursday.
