'I can live with that': Stewartville volleyball coach suspended after rules violations

A southern Minnesota hall of fame volleyball coach will keep his job after allegations he violated several league rules.

The Stewartville School Board voted 4-3 Monday to suspend coach John Dzubay for five games at the start of the fall 2015 season – but he will still continue as head coach of the Tigers, KTTC says.

He will also have to complete an action plan to address ongoing issues, ABC 6 notes.

"A five game suspension, I can live with that," Dzubay told ABC 6. "I know I'm not completely innocent in this whole thing. I totally misinterpreted the rules and if you misinterpret the rules, something has to happen."

The Minnesota State High School League hasn't said if it will also punish Dzubay for the alleged violations, which included out-of-season coaching, holding volleyball-related events on Sundays and strongly encouraging players to use the gym over the summer.

It's not clear when the MSHSL's decision could be made, ABC 6 notes.

Dzubay has coached the team since 1981, KTTC notes.
