In case you were wondering, Jim Thome is still a great guy

The consummate professional, one of the most liked men in all of baseball, and a great person away from the baseball field.

All of those things could be said of former Minnesota Twins slugger Jim Thome, who played for six MLB teams in his career, most notably the Cleveland Indians.

But just because Thome hasn't played baseball in a year doesn't mean his good deeds and work off the field have stopped as well.

Thome, from Peoria, Illinois, recently donated $100,000 to the city of Washington, Illinois, just 15 minutes from his hometown.

Washington was hit by a tornado in mid-November, an event that damaged over 1,000 homes and completely blew away over 500 of those.

In addition to donating the $100,000, Thome, who currently serves as a special assistant to the general manager for the White Sox but hopes to play again, rallied his current employer, the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, and Minnesota Twins to also contribute money.

Thome played for all four of those teams, and other organizations that have supported the 15,000-person town include the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks.
