When most Minnesotans were asleep, resting up for the coming day, Ryan Anderson was out winning a marathon with his sled dogs.

The Ray, Minnesota, native crossed the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon finish line at 2:53 a.m., the race announced early Wednesday.

IFan Sports Network put his total trail time at 35 hours, 23 minutes and 30 seconds.

This is Anderson's 29th year running dogs. He hadn't participated in the Beargrease since 2011 – in which he walked away the champ.

He and friend/competitor Nathan Schroeder – who had won the past two Beargrease marathons – were leading the pack into the final stretch, the Duluth News Tribune reported.

But Anderson pulled away late, and Schroeder came in about a half-hour later.

You can find final results on the Beargrease website. The race is also updating its Facebook with finishers.

Anderson, according to his bio, owns AnderTier Racing with his wife. They care for 40 dogs.
