Int'l Ski Federation rejects Lindsey Vonn's bid to race against men
Proclaiming "that one gender is not entitled to participate in races of the other," the International Ski Federation (FIS) Saturday rejected St. Paul native Lindsey Vonn's bid to compete in the men's World Cup downhill ski race, the Pioneer Press reported.
Vonn, a gold medal winner in the downhill in the 2010 Winter Olympics and four-time overall World Cup champion, announced last month that she wanted to compete against men in the event, which is set to take place in Canada Nov. 24.
Vonn crashed but was unhurt in the season opener of the World Cup giant slalom last week in Soelden, Austria.
