You know the NFL rumor mill is about to overheat when rumors about Adrian Peterson and Brad Childress reuniting in Chicago begin.
Alas, this is our current reality with one half of the former Vikings coach-player duo already already set to join the Bears.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Childress is expected to rejoin the Bears as a senior offensive assistant/consultant. Childress worked as an offensive analyst with the Bears last season and then left to become head coach of the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football.
The former Vikings coach abruptly quit his job in the AAF in January, just a few days into training camp. He said he wanted to focus more on his family.
Meanwhile, it's still entirely possible that Peterson re-signs with the Washington Redskins, but Mike Garafolo of NFL Network says Peterson joining the Bears as a free agent shouldn't be ruled out.
The Peterson part of the equation is all speculation at this point, and as far as we can tell, Garafolo is the only person currently linking Peterson to Chicago.
Can you imagine seeing Peterson in uniform with a team he's torched for 1,562 yards and 14 touchdowns in 14 career games?
Peterson, at the age of 33, rushed for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games with the Redskins last season. He turns 34 years old on Mar. 21.
