Isaac Kolstad suffers seizure, is hospitalized

Former Minnesota State University Mankato football player Isaac Kolstad has been admitted to a Twin Cities hospital after suffering a seizure-like episode late Friday night.

The Mankato Free Press reports the setback comes after a series of positive reports about Kolstad's progress. Just ten days ago, he returned to Blakeslee Stadium to lead his former teammates onto the field for their season opening football game against St. Cloud State.

An update by Kolstad's wife Molly on his CaringBridge site said that he was transported to the emergency department of a Twin Cities hospital. He will remain there under observation and will receive EEG monitoring, she reported.

KARE's story adds that he was put on anti-seizure medication, which may be a long-term treatment to prevent future seizures.

Kolstad suffered life-threatening brain injuries in a May assault in Mankato in May. The former MSU linebacker has been undergoing rehabilitation in the Twin Cities and his family had hoped that his progress would allow him to return to his hometown of Mankato in the coming weeks.
