Jeffers, Brown gone, Wolves must cut one more

The Timberwolves are two-thirds of the way to getting to their final roster.

Unfortunately, that means that Lorenzo Brown and too-good-to-be-true-story Othyus Jeffers are out the door.

That leaves Minnesota's roster at 16. They must get down to 15 by 4 p.m. Monday.

Brown, the Wolves second round pick this year, 52nd overall, appeared in just three of the Wolves seven preseason games, as the 6'5" point guard will not be around for Minnesota's final exhibition against Orlando Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Jeffers is the other casualty of Minnesota's roster moves, having appeared in six of Minnesota's preseason contests.

It's hard not to pull for Jeffers knowing his story, one laced with bad breaks and heartbreaks. He played for Wolves President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders in Washington in the 2010-11 season, but was a victim of the numbers game with Minnesota after being a victim of a torn ACL in Washington just days before he was supposed to sign a guaranteed contract.

With Brown and Jeffers gone, Chris Johnson, Robbie Hummel, and A.J. Price appear to be the three battling for the final spot on the Wolves roster.

If the Wolves cut Johnson, who hasn't seen much playing time in the Wolves preseason, they'd have to eat his $916,099 salary. Hummel and Price are on camp invites, and would be owed nothing should they not make it to the regular season with Minnesota.
