Jerry Kill is Gophers' honorary captain at bowl game

It's been exactly one month since the Gophers played their regular season finale – a 31-21 loss to border rival Wisconsin. But Minnesota is back on the field Monday at 4 p.m. against Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl.

Guiding the Gophers onto the field will be former head coach Jerry Kill, who is serving as an honorary captain for the game.

The Star Tribune reports Kill will watch the game from the sidelines. Kill was also on the sidelines during Minnesota's loss to Wisconsin.

Kill retired midway through the season after suffering seizures stemming from his epilepsy. He walked away saying he didn't want to coach the game if he couldn't commit 100 percent of himself to it.

It's been "really, really hard," Kill told the Pioneer Press in late November.

Tracy Claeys recently signed a three-year contract after being named Kill's interim replacement head coach.
