Salt, meet wound.

Minnesota super-recruits Tyus Jones, Reid Travis, and Rashad Vaughn were named McDonald's All-Americans today, becoming the first trio in state history to be picked for the prestigious team.

Jones, point guard for Apple Valley and the No. 5 recruit in the nation according to recruiting giant Rivals, is headed to Duke to play for Mike Krzyzewski next season.

Travis, a forward for DeLaSalle ranked in the top 50 of the class of 2014 by Rivals, had narrowed his list of possible destinations to Stanford and Minnesota before a very public unveiling of his choice. It was Stanford.

Vaughn, formerly of Robbinsdale Cooper and now in Las Vegas playing for Findlay Prep, has not made his college decision yet, but the Rivals No. 7 recruit in the land has eliminated Minnesota. His five remaining candidates are Iowa State, North Carolina, UNLV, Kansas, and Kentucky.

Had the Gopher hoops program landed just one of the three it would have been considered an upset, instead the Gophers were soundly beaten out by bigger name programs, coming the closest with Travis.

The pain of realizing what the Gophers have lost should be setting in right about now, if it hadn't already.
