Just when it started going well, Mauer lands on DL with injury

The strained oblique Twins first baseman Joe Mauer suffered in last night's 10-2 win over the Royals will force him to spend some time on the disabled list.

Until June 10, Mauer was in a monster slump. He broke out of that slump with a three-hit game against the Blue Jays on June 11, and ever since, he's been rolling.

Mauer extended his hitting streak to 12 games last night when he flipped an RBI double down the left-field line – the same play he suffered the strained oblique on.

According to Twins beat writer La Velle Neal III, Mauer described the injury by saying "it felt like somebody hit me right there."

Chris Colabello takes Mauer's spot on the roster. Interestingly enough, Colabello, despite not playing a big league game since being demoted in late May, still has more RBIs (30) than Mauer, Josh Willingham and Oswaldo Arcia. In fact, only Trevor Plouffe (39), Brian Dozier (38) and Kurt Suzuki (33) have more RBIs.
