It took Sweden more than 38 minutes to get their fourth shot on goal. When they did, late in the second period, the United States had just taken its 51st shot of the game. In essence, the Swedes had little chance against the dominant Americans in the semifinal round of the women's Olympic tournament in Sochi, Russia.

The U.S. skated freely up and down the ice to their own tune and blasted Sweden by a score of 6-1. The victory puts the Americans in Thursday's gold medal game where they will meet winner of the other semifinal game between Canada and Switzerland.

Canada defeated the U.S. in a thrilling game during the qualifying round. The two hockey powers have met in 18 of the last 19 international gold medal games.

As lopsided as the shots on goal were, the actual scoring chances were even more one-sided. At the end of two periods the U.S. had 37 scoring chances while the Swedes weren't credited with a single scoring chance.

Amanda Kessel, who could return to the Gophers for her senior season next season, scored the third American goal of the game. It capped a three-goal first period for the U.S. Former Gopher Megan Bozek made it 5-0 with a goal midway through the second period. Bozek added a pair of assists to her stat-line.

The U.S. finished the game out-shooting the Swedes, 70-9.

Here's a great photo gallery of the game provided by USA Hockey. However, nothing beats the amazing photo Marvin Windows posted today. It's a high school photo of former Gopher star Gigi Marvin, who had an assist in the game, along with U.S. men's hero T.J. Oshie. The dynamic duo was the Warroad 2005 Frosty Festival King and Queen.
