The Minnesota Timberwolves made the news official Thursday night, announcing they have reacquired Kevin Garnett, in a trade. The deal to bring Garnett back sent Thaddeus Young to Brooklyn, once Garnett waived his 'no trade clause.'

The Timberwolves drafted Garnett with the fifth pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He spent 12 seasons with the Wolves, helped the franchise win over 500 games and led the team to the NBA playoffs eight times.

When the Wolves fell on hard times in 2007, Garnett was traded to Boston and won an NBA Championship there.

Timberwolves president and coach Flip Saunders said during a Thursday night press conference that Garnett will arrive in Minnesota on Saturday and will play on Wednesday when the Wolves host Washington.

One of the reasons the Wolves wanted to bring the 38-year-old veteran back was to lead and mentor a young Wolves squad.

Additionally, Saunders said he thinks Garnett can still play and has a lot in the tank. The Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Garnett to a two-year contract extension.

In November, Garnett said he'd be interested in owning the Timberwolves or a portion of the team once he retires from basketball. Saunders said he thinks that shows how committed Garnett is to the team and state.

The reaction to Garnett's return to Minnesota has been largely positive. According to WCCO, the move has generated energy both on the team and with the fans.
