Kohl Stewart tells dad he's signing with Twins
Further evidence today that Twins No. 1 draft choice Kohl Stewart will bypass his football career at Texas A&M and instead sign a minor league baseball contract with Minnesota.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Stewart, 18, told his father that he's going to accept the Twins' offer.
"You don't get drafted fourth and not go," Mark Stewart said.
After being drafted last night, the younger Stewart said as much in a conference call with reporters, which was transcribed by Twins Daily.
Best quote: I look forward to being able to just sit down and work on baseball for once. I’ve never been able to do that. I really didn’t start pitching at the level I have been pitching at until high school and then football came again and took away from that. So I’m really looking forward to being able to really focus on one thing and focus on that for a long period of time. I can’t wait to see how the Twins can help me and see how much I can grow.
In his senior year at St. Pius X High School (Houston), Stewart put up a microscopic 0.18 ERA in 40 innings.
