Detroit Red Wings 1

Minnesota Wild 3

The Minnesota Wild scored two goals in the third period to put away a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings Monday night at the Xcel Energy Center.

1. Dubnyk shines after Kuemper's late scratch

First it was going to be Darcy Kuemper in net when the Wild were set to face the Red Wings Monday, but then after Kuemper was a late scratch from the lineup, it was once again Devan Dubnyk.

Dubnyk suffered a minor injury in practice Sunday. Wild coach Mike Yeo did not believe that Dubnyk would be able to go, but with Kuemper out, Dubnyk started and played well for Minnesota.

He stopped 28-of-29 in net.

2. Crazy finish

On a night when the teams could muster just one goal through the first 57 minutes, a pair of late goals made for an interesting finish.

First Mikko Koivu appeared to give the Wild a little breathing room with his third period goal, putting Minnesota up 2-0. Koivu's ninth of the season came on a slap shot with helpers from Matt Dumba and Zach Parise.

Seconds later, Detroit answered to make it a 2-1 game with 1:57 to play.

But Koivu ended it with his second goal of the night into an empty Detroit net.

3. Parise adds a pair of helpers

Parise has been a big part of Minnesota's success this season – mostly for his ability to score goals. But Monday night, it was his playmaking ability that made an impact, especially late.

Parise picked up assists on both of Koivu's third period goal. He now has 11 on the season.
