After leading the Lakeville South boys' hockey team to the state championship game two weeks ago, head coach Janne Kivilhalme has resigned.
Kivilhalme's resignation comes after just three seasons at Lakeville South. He led the Cougars to the state tournament every year, including a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Eden Prairie in last month's state title game at Xcel Energy Center.
"Earlier today I resigned as Lakeville South Head Hockey Coach. I want to thank all the players for your dedication and hard work and all the parents for your commitment to the program. 3 years/3section titles/2 conference championships/section academic champs!" Kivilhalme tweeted Thursday.
Bring Me The News reached out to Lakeville Area Schools for comment but did not receive a response. According to Youth Hockey Hub, Kivilhalme's resignation was not voluntary, though the Hub has not expanded on that report.
Prior to coaching at Lakeville South, Kivilhalme was the head coach at Burnsville High School for 12 years.
