Late rally not enough as Wild fall to Lightning in shootout

Points in back-to-back games to start a four-game road trip didn't look likely for the Wild in its Saturday night game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but the Wild rallied to force overtime and earn a point in their first shootout of the season.

Minnesota went 0-for-3 in the shootout, with Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle all failing to find the back of the net – Ryan Callahan scored the shootout winner for Tampa Bay.

Final score: Lightning 3, Wild 2

The Lightning struck first with a goal midway through the first period, but Coyle's 10th goal of the season about four minutes later tied the game, 1-1. Tampa scored again in the second and held a 2-1 lead until Jared Spurgeon scored to tie the score with 2:39 remaining in the third period.

Minnesota appeared to have tied the game prior to Spurgeon's goal on a shot by Ryan Suter, but the goal was waived off after a review ruled interference on Zach Parise.
