Like father, like son: Vikings invite Cris Carter’s son to minicamp

Duron Carter is trying to follow in his father's footsteps -- first college and now the pros.

Despite reports that the Minnesota Vikings signed Duron Carter, the son of newly-elected Hall of Fame former Viking Cris Carter, the team has only invited the younger Carter to tryout as an undrafted free agent, USA Today reports. The newspaper says the Baltimore Ravens have also extended Carter an invitation to try out.

"I'm just so happy for him that he'll get an opportunity to continue doing what he loves to do," Cris told the Star Tribune on Sunday. "For him to get that opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings, a team I played for and love, it's just a blessing."

ESPN says Duron completed 13 receptions for Ohio State, his dad's alma mater, in 2009.

The 6-foot-4 receiver then transferred to junior college because of academic problems. He later went on to both Alabama and Florida Atlantic, but never played for either school because of more classroom issues.

"He. Just. Hates. (Bleeping). School," Cris told USA Today's Mike Garafolo earlier this month.

In August, Cris Carter will be enshrined in the Pro Footbal Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
