Don't panic, Lynx fans. Lindsay Whalen still plans to play in the WNBA, but she has retired from international basketball.

“This was a very tough decision, but I feel like it’s time in my career to step aside and give another young player the opportunity," Whalen said in a USA Basketball release. "I started with USA Basketball in Brazil, so finishing at the Olympics back in Brazil seems like I’ve come full circle."

Whalen helped Team USA win Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, along with a pair of World Cup golds in 2010 and 2014.

I spoke with Whalen last summer and she intimated that she'll continue to play in the WNBA as long as she can, simply taking things one year at a time.

When she does retire from basketball she'll likely have a media gig waiting for her. She's spent time as a guest analyst for Fox Sports North's coverage of the Timberwolves over the past month or so.
