The Minnesota Lynx overcame a flat performance early to defeat the San Antonio Stars 94-89 Saturday night in San Antonio, and advance to the Western Conference Finals in the WNBA Playoffs.

Lindsey Whalen scored 31 points, a playoff career-high, to lead Minnesota. Seimone August scored 21 and Maya Moore had 16, according to

It didn't start out well for the Lynx, who got behind quickly. The Stars scored the game's first seven points and went on to a 22-4 lead. They closed the gap to a four-point deficit at halftime on an 18-8 run. Whalen scored 12 of her points in the second quarter, making four out of five shots and sinking six free throws, the Associated Press reports. Minnesota took the lead for good at 67-64 at the end of the third quarter.

Kayla McBride had 25 points to lead the Stars. It was also the last game for San Antonio's Becky Hammon, who had 12 points and four assists. Hammon is retiring after 16 seasons in the WNBA, and the home crowd in San Antonio gave her a standing ovation. Lynx players also greeted her warmly after the game.

Hammon is joining the coaching staff of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, and will become the first woman to serve as a full-time NBA assistant coach.

The Lynx, the defending WNBA champions, took two straight from the Stars in the best-of-three series. They won the first game 88-84 on Thursday night. They'll face the winner of the other semi-final series between Phoenix and Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press.
