The Minnesota Lynx announced a big trade on Monday aimed at helping what's become an injury-riddled roster.

Monday, the Lynx announced they acquired guard Renee Montgomery, along with a second-round pick in 2016 from Seattle, for injured guard Monica Wright.

For Montgomery, it's a return to the team that drafted her. The Lynx took Montgomery with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft.

During her rookie season with Minnesota, Montgomery averaged 9.0 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game and was named to the 2009 Adidas All-Rookie Team. But she was traded to Connecticut the following season in a deal that brought Lindsay Whalen back to Minnesota.

Despite a league-best 12-3 record, the Lynx have had to deal with a number of injuries. Both Wright and Seimone Augustus are out after knee surgery last week.

"This comes at a good time for us," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve told the Star Tribune. "With that skill set at that position? Obviously, we're in a place where we need some help."

Seattle acquired Montgomery in a trade with the Sun on Jan. 28. For her career Montgomery is averaging 10.6 points, 3.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds in an average of 23 minutes per game.

Montgomery has had some success; she was named to the 2011 Eastern Conference All-Star Team and in 2012 was the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year.

The thought is that Montgomery can step in and help the Lynx right away, as Augustus is expected to be out at least a month.
