Lynx no match for Liberty, as New York locks up a playoff spot

In a matchup of the WNBA's top teams, the Minnesota Lynx were no match for the New York Liberty Friday night, falling 81-68 at Madison Square Garden.

The victory gives the Liberty the best record in the WNBA at 19-8. The loss drops the Lynx to 19-10. It also locked up a playoff spot for New York. Minnesota secured a playoff spot weeks ago.

The Liberty took control of the game early on as they came out on fire, scoring 27 points in the first quarter and building a double digit lead.

Epiphany Prince led the Liberty with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Tina Charles did her damage inside. She had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Maya Moore tried to keep the Lynx in it. She made some big shots early in the second half and finished with 25 points. Moore also grabbed nine boards and had three assists on the night.

Sylvia Fowles added a double-double of her own, she finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lynx tried to battle back a few times in the fourth quarter, but the Liberty were able to hold them off down the stretch.
