Lynx preparing to face dunking Brittney Griner

The Minnesota Lynx (1-0) face the Phoenix Mercury (0-1) Thursday night at Target Center.

It will be the Minnesota's first look at the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft -- Brittney Griner. The 6-foot-8 rookie dunked twice in her first career game, and has been dunking on opponents since she was a high school phenom.

"She's a handful," Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve said of Griner. "We can't let her get 30 (points) on us. I feel every time she plays she has a chance at getting 18 or 20."

"We are going to make her work for everything she gets," Lynx center Janel McCarville said Tuesday.

McCarville, however, gives up six inches in height to the taller Griner. Last week, McCarville told KFAN-FM 100.3 that she'll use her weight to her advantage.

Guarding Griner will be a little easier with 6-foot-2 Rebekkah Brunson in the post, too. Brunson missed practice Monday with a sore groin muscle, was back at practice Tuesday.
