The defending WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx and the Mayo Clinic both expect to get a bounce out of a new multiyear sponsorship deal that team officials call the "most extensive marquee jersey partnership in WNBA history." You can read the announcement here.

This jersey sponsorship is part of a broader partnership announced by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx and Mayo Clinic last month. The Business Journal reported that the Mayo Clinic will be the presenting sponsor for the 2014 Lynx season. The Associated Press reports that team jerseys will now read Mayo Clinic across the front rather than Lynx. They are the sixth team in the league to enter into a sponsorship agreement that features a company's name as the primary logo rather than the team name.

In addition to placement on the team's jerseys, Mayo's logo also will appear prominently on the Target Center court and signage in and around the arena. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lynx standouts Monica Wright and Maya Moore modeled the new jerseys at an afternoon press conference.

“The WNBA is thrilled to have Mayo Clinic as a partner, and so excited to see their name on the jersey of one of our most successful teams,” said WNBA President Laurel Richie. “We are so proud to be associated with one of the most well-respected, internationally recognized brands in health care.”

Mayo plans to open a sports medicine center inside a revamped structure that will inhabit Block E in what will be called Mayo Clinic Square in downtown Minneapolis. The famed Rochester medical clinic will become the officials sports-medicine services provider for both the Timberwolves and the Lynx. Mayo will have to wait until 2015 to become the official medical provider for the Lynx. TRIA Orthopaedic Center will stay on until then.

The Lynx season begins on May 16.
