The Minnesota Lynx got off to a strong start against the Washington Mystics, winning by a score of 74-57 in their WNBA preseason matchup, held before an enthusiastic crowd at the Bismarck, N.D. Civic Center.

The Bismarck Tribune reported that the Lynx never trailed, but their big lead withered to two points early in the fourth quarter. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve put her starters back in, and the Lynx promptly rattled off 12 unanswered points.

The Lynx's Maya Moore said she welcomed the opportunity to play in Bismarck before fans that ordinarily wouldn’t get to see a WNBA game live.

“It’s not until you see us in person that you can appreciate the fun, the athleticism, the level of play that we play at,” Moore said.

The game was the first time former Gopher teammates Lindsay Whalen and Janel McCarville were on the floor together in Lynx jerseys. The Star Tribune Sunday sports section includes an extensive profile of McCarville, who has returned to the Wisconsin farm where she was raised.

The Lynx season opener is on June 1 against Connecticut.
