Mets cruise past Twins, 6-1

MINNEAPOLIS -- Dillon Gee pitched 7 2/3 solid innings, leading the New York Mets to a 6-1 win over the Twins Monday at Target Field.

Minnesota, handcuffed by poor hitting once again, struck out nine times and managed six hits off Gee (9-8, 3.60 ERA), and scored their lone run on an error.

Clutch hits were also a problem, as the Twins were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets jumped on Twins starter Kyle Gibson (2-4, 6.53), knocking the right-hander out of the game in fourth inning after he had surrendered four runs on 10 hits.

Six separate Mets drove in runs for New York, who traveled to Target Field to make up a game that was snowed out in Minneapolis in mid-April.

For the Twins, the dog days of August don't get much easier.

They head out for a six-game road trip to Detroit and Cleveland, and 29 of their final 39 games are against teams still in the American League playoff hunt.
