Mankato coach seeks to seal court records

The Mankato college football coach who has been cleared of charges related to child pornography has filed a civil lawsuit asking a judge to keep investigation reports sealed from the public, the Mankato Free Press reports.

Todd Hoffner had successfully argued that the video on his university-issued cell phone was innocent footage of his children, and charges were dropped last month.

But Hoffner was not reinstated as head coach at Minnesota State-Mankato. (He is still an employee of the university and is scheduled to serve a 20-day unpaid suspension next month, which he is also challenging.) Now Hoffner, who hasn’t served as head football coach since August, is fighting to get his job back.

District Court Judge Krista Jass has agreed to seal investigation reports for now, so Hoffner's lawyer can review them and file a sealed list of information he believes should be hidden from the public, the Free Press reports. The judge plans to review the lawyer's list and decide what should remain sealed.
