Mariners drub Twins in record cold game at Target Field

The Twins are using the hashtag #ColdAirDontCare.

The Mariners put a sound beating, 11-4, on the Twins Saturday afternoon and they did so in sub-freezing conditions.

The air temperature was just 27 degrees at first pitch, the coldest it's ever been to start a game in Target Field's history.

Here are three things to know from the game.

1. Mariners blow it open in the 8th

Leading 5-3 in the eighth inning, the Mariners got a 3-run, bases-clearing double from Chase Healy and a pinch-hit, 2-run homer by Guillermo Heredia to take a 10-3 lead.

Zach Duke was charged with 3 runs before Trevor Hildenberger replaced him and gave up the homer.

2. Twins left bases loaded in the 7th

Minnesota had the perfect situation to either tie or take the lead late in the game. In the seventh inning, Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer reached on singles and Miguel Sano walked to load the bases with just one out and the four and five hitters due up.

But Eddie Rosario struck out swinging and Logan Morrison fouled out to third base to end the threat. Morrison has just one hit in 23 at-bats so far this season.

3. Berrios was good and bad

Jose Berrios flashed his electric arsenal of pitches with 7 strikeouts but he lasted just 4 1/3 innings after allowing 5 runs on 6 hits.

It was his second start of the season. His first was much better: a complete game 3-hit shutout against the Orioles.

Up next: Twins vs. Mariners, Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

The weather won't be much better, with a high temperature right around 30 degrees and up to 2 inches of snow possibl
