The Twins will be without catcher Joe Mauer for tonight's series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Target Field.

Mauer, who has a 14 game hitting streak going, is bothered by a stiff back.

"The decision was not to play him," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire tells FOX Sports North. "We'll see how he does through the night and check on him for tomorrow, see how it goes."

Shane Victorino won't be in the lineup for the Red Sox. He, too, has an injured back.
