Mavericks overwhelm Wolves for 9th straight home loss

The Dallas Mavericks took control of the game in the first half and drilled the Timberwolves Wednesday night 98-75 at Target Center.

It was Minnesota's ninth straight loss at home, and marked 41 days since they last won a game in their home arena.

The Mavericks opened up the game by doubling up on the Timberwolves in the second quarter. A 25-9 run by the Mavericks keyed the 35-17 Dallas lead.

Chandler Parsons had a big night for the Mavericks, scoring 22 points. Parsons knocked down 4 three-pointers in the game and led the red-hot Mavericks attack that shot better than 50 percent from the floor. Dirk Nowitzki also had another solid night. He added 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Minnesota wasn't nearly as efficient offensively. The Wolves shot just 35 percent from the floor and were 2-of-15 from behind the arc.

Andrew Wiggins had 18 points to lead the Wolves. Thaddeus Young had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He also had a team-high six assists.

The biggest news for the Wolves was the return of Nikola Pekovic. He came off the bench and played for the first time in 31 games, scoring 14 points.

While Pekovic was the first of the injured Wolves to return to the floor, Kevin Martin is expected to return any day. Point guard Ricky Rubio could still be out awhile, though.

According to the Associated Press, Rubio's injury was much worse than a typical high ankle sprain. Wolves coach Flip Saunders told reporters Wednesday that Rubio also suffered damage to the muscles and ligaments near the ankle. According to Saunders, Rubio was warned by specialists that returning too soon could cause a stress fracture in his leg or foot.

The Wolves (7-34) host New Orleans on Friday night.
