Maya Moore's 25 can't keep Lynx from loss in New York

Maya Moore scored 25 points in her return to Madison Square Garden, but it was not enough for the Minnesota Lynx as they suffered an 87-80 loss to the New York Liberty Sunday.

Moore scored nine straight points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 76. But it was one of her former University of Connecticut teammates, Tina Charles, who led New York to victory by scoring a career-high 32 points, the Associated Press reports.

The Garden has been undergoing renovation for the last three years. When Moore and Charles were starring for Connecticut, the Huskies occasionally played home games in New York. Memorable games there included Connecticut's record-tying 88th consecutive victory during Moore's junior year, the AP says.

On Sunday Moore had eight rebounds to go with her 25 points.

The box score shows Lindsay Whalen had five rebounds and five assists to go with 13 points. Monica Wright added 11 for the Lynx.

The Lynx played their third straight game without star guard Seimone Augustus, who is nursing bursitis in her left knee. Forward Rebekkah Brunson is also recovering from a knee injury.

They Lynx are now 13-6 on the season, putting them in 2nd place in the western conference. They're back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Los Angeles Sparks.
