McCarville to sit out 2015 season for the Minnesota Lynx

Minnesota Lynx center Janel McCarville has told the team that she will not play in 2015.

Neither the team nor McCarville have given a reason for her decision not to play and a statement from the team didn't add anything.

McCarville was traded to the Lynx prior to the 2013 season. She averaged 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season.

Her absence will mean the Lynx will have a new starting center to play alongside Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, Rebekkah Brunson and Seimone Augustus.

Though McCarville was a complimentary player with the Lynx, her absence will be felt. She helped the Lynx win the WNBA title in 2013 after she was traded to Minnesota.

She was a college teammate of Whalen at the University of Minnesota. The duo led the Gophers to the Final Four in 2004.

So how will the Lynx fill the void?

The Star Tribune notes that Minnesota has acquired veteran center Asjha Jones from the Connecticut Sun. She is expected to be in uniform when training camp opens Sunday.

According to Canis Hoopus, Jones is a bit of a question mark. The blog notes she hasn't played in the WNBA since 2012 because of a number of issues – including an Achilles injury. That season, though, she averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game.

Others who could play the post position for the Lynx include Amber Harris, who missed last season because of injuries. The blog also notes a healthy Brunson and Devereaux Peters could see some minutes inside.

Also don't rule out Damiris Dantas, who was impressive in her WNBA debut last season.
