Michael Floyd is hoping to turn his troubles into a title

It has been a tumultuous season for New England wide receiver and Minnesota native Michael Floyd.

The former Cretin-Derham Hall standout has posted career lows in receptions and yards, was arrested for DUI in December and released by the only NFL team he had ever played for.

But just when things looked like they couldn't get much worse for Floyd, things began turning around and now he has a chance to end the season with the NFL's ultimate prize – a Super Bowl ring.

His role Sunday is still a bit of a mystery. Floyd appeared in New England's final two regular season games and in the divisional playoff game against Houston.

But after a couple of costly mistakes against the Texans, he was inactive for New England's AFC Championship victory over Pittsburgh.

There are some signs, though, that his banishment to the bench might be short-lived. The blog Patriots Wire names Floyd as one of 5 x-factor Patriots for Super Bowl LI.

"At 6-foot-3, Floyd can be a threat in the red area due to his size and athleticism. His skill set complements the rest of New England's pass-catchers. He'll need to prove in practice that he's studied the playbook and won't run routes incorrectly, which was how Brady ended up throwing an interception in the AFC divisional round."

Floyd has bounced back from his tough week. New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels wouldn't rule him out for Sunday in an interview with the Pioneer Press.

"He works his butt off," McDaniels said. "He's done everything we've asked him to do. I think sometimes circumstances decide (who is inactive). There's other factors in all that. But Michael's been great. I'm really happy to have him, and we're going to work hard and get him ready for Sunday."

The NFL is often a place of second chances, and Floyd now has a chance to make the most of his.
