Miguel Sano behind on his conditioning, 'appears' heavier than 260

The power hitter had surgery on his leg in November.

Miguel Sano finished with 28 home runs last season despite missing 48 games, most of which were due to a stress reaction in his lower left leg that kept him out most of August and September.

In November, Sano had a titanium rod inserted into his leg, and if you've ever had a titanium rod inserted into your leg you know that it keeps you on the shelf for a while.

According to MLB reporter Rhett Bollinger, Sano is listed at 6'4'', 260 pounds, "but appears heavier than that."

“It wasn’t an ideal offseason for him clearly from a workload or conditioning standpoint, but we’re using the next few weeks to get him up to speed,” Twins chief baseball officer Derek Falvey said Sunday. "We’ve got to make sure to put him in a place where he can be successful, and that requires some conditioning focus."

Falvey said the goal is to simply get Sano ready for Opening Day.

Meanwhile, the MLB investigation into photographer Betsy Bissen's allegations that Sano sexually harassed her during an autograph session in 2015 is ongoing.

“I haven’t heard anything. It’s still going, the investigation right now, and I have no comment on it,” Sano said Sunday, according to Fox Sports

Sano could face a fine or a suspension if MLB investigators feel one or both are warranted.
