Mike Wallace says he wasn't taking a shot at Teddy Bridgewater

Mike Wallace is clarifying comments he made earlier this week about Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Wallace, upon signing with the Baltimore Ravens, proclaimed he needed a quarterback who could "really sling the ball."

"When this process started, I knew that I wasn't going back to Minnesota," he said, according to The Baltimore Sun. "I was like, 'I need a good quarterback. I need a quarterback who I know is proven and can get things done."

Naturally, that sounded like a shot at Bridgewater.

But Wallace, in a message to USA Today Wednesday, said he "would never say anything negative about Teddy," noting he spoke with the young quarterback and the two are good.

ESPN's Ben Goessling had a good story about Wallace's tenure in Minnesota, noting the wide receiver set an example "with his diligent practice habits." But in games, as the season went on, the Vikings had to change their offense to compensate for other issues – and it affected Wallace's opportunities.

Bottom line, the two didn't connect frequently during the 2015 season, as Wallace finished with just 39 catches for 473 yards and a career low 2 touchdowns.

Star Tribune columnist Jim Souhan argued Wallace was ignoring his own flaws when insulting Bridgewater.
