Mike Wobschall returns as editor, podcast host for Vikings group
Ten months after his sudden departure from the Minnesota Vikings, Mike Wobschall is back as a writer/podcast host covering the Vikings and the NFL.
Wobschall has been hired to be the managing editor and senior analyst for PurpleTERRITORY, which involves three Vikings blogs: VikingsTerritory, purplePTSD and PurpleTERRITORYRadio.
An announcement from the group says Wobschall, known by many as "Wobby," will host a forthcoming podcast called "Three Deep" as well as write multiple articles for the site each week.
Wobschall spent 15 years with the Vikings as the NFL team's senior manager of content for the Vikings Entertainment Network before departing for reasons unknown last November. At the time, the Vikings didn't not elaborate on why Wobschall had left the team midseason, only saying he was "no longer employed" while also wishing "him the best in his future endeavors."
Wobschall was a frequent guest of Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen's radio show on KFAN-FM 100.3. But after his departure he also disappeared from the airwaves, with KFAN last November declining to comment about his status with the station.
The radio partnership between the Vikings and KFAN also saw Wobschall co-hosting a weekly program with Mark Rosen, titled "Skol Stories," and solo hosting a weekly show called "Vikings Final Preparation."
Wobschall stopped hosting the shows as soon as his employment with the Vikings ended, though a tweet from Allen indicates it won't be long before he's back on the air at KFAN.
"We’re ecstatic to bring Wobby aboard as, to make a comparison, he was the Kirk Cousins of free agents in the Vikings mediasphere. We’re in a rapid expansion mode with our first local/independent and centralized Minnesota Sports app, UFFda! being launched by the end of the year, so aligning our brand with the brand of someone on Wobby’s level was a no-brainer," said Joe Johnson, owner of PurpleTERRITORY.
Wobschall's Twitter account bio includes his new job with the Vikings-based group, in addition to saying he's an account supervisor at Perrill, a Minneapolis-based brand strategy company.
Bring Me The News has reached out to Wobschall for comment and will update the story if a response is provided.
