Mike Zimmer: Running game key to NFC Championship victory

Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon will be key to the Vikings' plans.

Some of you may still be on a "Minneapolis Miracle" high, but the Vikings aren't.

There wasn't any time to revel in the wake of Sunday's spectacular last-gasp win over the Saints – focus now is on Philadelphia.

Head coach Mike Zimmer has been speaking to media Wednesday, and believes that the key to defeating the Eagles in Philly win be the running game.

"I think the team that runs the ball better will end up winning the football game," he said.

His comments allude to what will be an intriguing matchup between the Vikings and Eagles.

Philly has the No. 3 ranked rushing offense this year in terms of yards gained, led by Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount, but it produced just 9 touchdowns compared to the 15 by the Vikings' 7th ranked rushing offense, led by Jerick McKinnon and Latavius Murray.

The Eagles defense also has the edge on the Vikings, but only just. They have the No. 1 ranked run defense while the Vikings are No. 2, according to ESPN.

After the Vikings managed to limit the Saints' explosive running back combo of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara on Sunday, they'll be confident of repeating the trip at Lincoln Financial Field.

But so will the Eagles, after holding the Falcons rushing attack of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman to just 86 yards in their divisional playoff matchup.

Injury updates

Andrew Sendejo was limited in practice on Wednesday following that sickening head clash with Michael Thomas on Sunday.

But the fact he was out on the field at all after suffering a concussion is a good sign, with Zimmer saying he'll "be fine" for Sunday.

Adam Thielen raised a little alarm for Vikings fans when he was held out of Wednesday practice after picking up an injury against the Saints.

It wasn't brought up during the morning press briefing, though he too is expected to be fine for Sunday.
