As one of the top recruits in the country it should come as no surprise that one of three finalists for the 2020-21 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year is Minnehaha Academy 7-footer Chet Holmgren.
The 5-star recruit from Minneapolis was named a finalist Friday, along with Jabari Smith of Georgia and Donovan Clingan, of Connecticut. Holmgren is bound for Gonzaga while Smith is head to Auburn. Clingan is a junior and a top-50 recruit in the Class of 2022.
Holmgren is a 5-star recruit, according to 247 Sports, and the No. 1 player in the nation in the senior Class of 2021. He's also the second straight Minnehaha Academy standout to go to Gonzaga, joining Jalen Suggs.
Holmgren was recently named Minnesota's Mr. Basketball winner after leading Minnehaha Academy to a Class 3A state championship. He averaged 21 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.
Suggs, who also won the Mr. Basketball Award, led Gonzaga to the national championship game as a freshman and is now likely going to be a top-five pick in this summer's NBA Draft.
