Hopkins, DeLaSalle, New Richland-H-E-G, Minneota win girls basketball titles

Hopkins' girls basketball team won its third straight state championship Saturday with a convincing 68-45 victory over Bloomington-Jefferson at Target Center, reports the Star Tribune.

Hopkins led by 2 points at halftime, 28-26, but went on a 24-1 scoring run in the second half on their way to the win.

With the victory, the Royals became the first team in Class 4A history to win three straight titles.

3A championship

DeLaSalle rolled over Red Wing 65-50 in the 3A state girls basketball championship game Saturday at Target Center, marking the third straight state title for the Islanders.

The victory also made DeLaSalle the first girls' basketball team in eight years to win three consecutive state championships.

Senior Tyseanna Johnson led the way for the Islanders (28-4) with 25 points.

2A championship

New Richland-H-E-G's Carlie Wagner scored 50 of the team's 60 points in the Panther's 60-50 win over Braham for the Class 2A state girls basketball championship.

Wagner's final point was the most important: a go-ahead free-throw with 6.1 seconds remaining in the game.

1A championship

Minneota won its first-ever Class A state girls basketball title with a 61-51 win over Ada-Borup, The Associated Press reports.

The fourth-ranked Vikings (30-2) topped their 17-game winning streak with the victory, which was preceded by a upset of top-ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl in the quarter-finals and win over No. 3 Bethlehem Academy in the semi-finals.
